Pupils at Distance Learning: Pros and Cons

Unlike many others, I wrote this post first in Russian, and it is Russia-specific to some extent. So, here are some key points:

Undoubtedly, distance learning is a defective substitute for normal classroom learning for pupils. But is it a sufficient reason to bring pupils back to schools during record figures of new COVID-19 cases? I believe not.

Health and life, I am convinced, should be at the highest priority in all decisions. Children, fortunately, carry the coronavirus relatively easily in most cases. Please take note: only relatively and only in most. I personally know a case when a little child was severely hit by the coronavirus.

However, children are involuntary distributors of COVID-19 to their teachers, their parents and grandparents they often live with. For them the infection can be deadly…

Now it is not the time when we take good or better decisions. We now should often choose between bad and very bad decisions. Keeping children at distance learning seems to be a lesser evil.

Take care of yourself and your close ones and stay safe.
