Selected Songs: May There Always Be Sunshine

May There Always Be Sunshine is one the most popular Soviet/Russian children’s songs. The melody is of Arkady Ostrovsky and the text is of Lev Oshanin.

Soviet singer Tamara Miansarova performed “Let there always be sunshine” at the VIII World Festival of Youth and Students in Helsinki. She became the laureate of the festival and received a gold medal.  After that, she recorded a song that became a children’s anthem not only in the USSR, but also abroad, in 11 languages.

May There Always Be Sunshine lyrics translation:

Solar circle,
The sky around
This is a drawing of a boy.
He drew on a piece of paper
And signed in the corner:

May there always be sunshine
May there always be sky
May there always be a mother
May I always be.

My dear friend,
Good friend of mine
People really want peace.
And at thirty five
The heart again
Does not get tired of repeating:

May there always be sunshine
May there always be sky
May there always be a mother
May I always be.

Hush, soldier
Do you hear, soldier?
People are afraid of explosions.
Thousand eyes
They look into the sky
Lips stubbornly repeat:

May there always be sunshine
May there always be sky
May there always be a mother
May I always be.

Against trouble
Against the war
Let’s stand up for our boys.
The sun is forever!  Happiness – forever!  —
So the man said.

May there always be sunshine
May there always be sky
May there always be a mother
May I always be.
