Sting’s song “Russians” was written in 1985 and included on his debut solo album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles. The idea for the song came to Sting while watching Sunday morning broadcasts on Soviet television with a friend and was struck by “how much warmth, attention, and love was poured into these programs”, as he said later. In the song, the musician warns against war, which can destroy all life.
